joining the ranks.

i am joining the ranks. the ranks of people blogging about this blasted election that is. and you know what? my post is going to be different than all the rest, because guess what? I did not vote, nor am i going to this year.

the problem is that i am one of the few people who understands that my vote really and truly does not count, in terms of electing the president. my vote does not matter. and anyone who thinks it does has no clue about what the electoral college is up to. it is not the popular vote that makes someone the president, it is the electoral vote. this whole idea that we are getting a say as to who our benevolent dictator will be is complete rubbish. not that it matters much

anyway... in my opinion, neither candidate is better than the other. they're both evil. they will both cause this country to tumble down around our ears. neither of them have what it takes to be a good, strong, HONEST leader. i dont think any politician does. by definition.

now, dont get me wrong. i believe its important to vote. i always have. it is my one opportunity to put in my two cents about what i want for the country. whether it gets ignored or not, has nothing to do with it. its a matter of principle. and if you dont vote, you dont get to bitch and moan. well, i'm retracting that bit about not being able to bitch and moan. in this case, it wouldnt matter if i voted or not, because i dont want EITHER of those snakes in office. i'd just end up writing someone in, like MY SON because hes smarter than the two of them combined (even at 5 yrs old).

and i'm sick and tired of everyone around me telling me how i need to go vote, as if my vote actually counted for anything. you see the commercials on tv about how the last election was won by less than 1000 votes or whatever the heck statistic they throw out there... but you know what? the last election was one because the electoral college voted for bush. plain and simple. it didnt have anything to do with the popular vote. not to mention that frankly, i dont have the time to waste on something that doesnt matter anyway.

polls here opened at 7am. well, i leave for work about that time, if i havent overslept that is. after commuting the hour and something to work, i work 8 hrs with a 1 hr lunch. my 1hr lunch is not long enough for me to commute back home, and then back to work, with time for voting in between. i'd have to take 2 or 3 hours vacation time to make that happen. a half hour after work, i have class until 9:30pm. polls close at 8pm. i have time to vote when?

i should have gotten an absentee ballot you say? yeah well, i didnt get my voter information thingy in time for me to request one. THANK YOU USPS... i live NEXT DOOR to the post office, and guess what??? they cant deliver my mail on time! ever! unless of course its junk mail... god forbid i get THAT late... *doh!*

yeah... so the entire process is screwed up, and i hate it, and i think its pointless, and i think it needs to be torn down completely and rebuilt from the foundation up. i think the electoral college needs to be eliminated, and our elections should be decided 100% by popular vote. isnt that what democracy is all about anyway?? that all men (and women, and transexuals) are created equal? that we all get an equal say in who our government is made up of? doesnt having an electoral college defeat that purpose? cuz it sure seems that if those however-many people get to decide the out comes of our elections, no matter what we as a populous say, they've got a bit more voting power than we do? hmmmm... might that be a problem? i think it is. especially when the electoral college is saying how it will vote before the popular vote has been tallied... or even completely collected... um... yes... BIG problem.

so yeah. i didnt vote. i'm not going to vote this year. if ya got a problem with it... well... keep it to your own danged self [danged was not my original choice of wording... but i didnt want to be too insulting to you all...]

  1. the problem is not what Kerry has done. the problem is what he hasnt done. he hasnt proven himself worthy of the position. he hasnt given me reason to have confidence in him. he hasnt shown that hes better, in any way, than Bush is.

think about it. this is Kerry's job interview. and what has he done? spent most of the time telling us how bad Bush is. well we all know that... how bad Bush is isnt the issue. Bush is the known quantity. Kerry is supposed to be telling us why he is good for the job. why he is better for the job. why he is better for our country. what he will do to make things better [yeah, yeah, he has a "plan" and if i hear about it one more time imma puke. his plan is a pipe dream, and i dont see how he could possibly enact it, or make it work out to benefit me, anyone i care about, or the country in general].

not to mention the amount of flip flopping thats been going on. i know that its all part of "normal politics" but i'm sick and tired of normal politics. i'm tired of a candidate changing his opinion to match his audience. it shows a certain lack of backbone, and i have a problem with that. i mean, if you're going to be the man to head up the entire country, shouldnt you at least have the courage to stand up for what you believe in? isnt that the whole point? that the president is the spokesperson for the entire country, and his job is to stand up for what we believe in, with all his heart and soul? how can he possibly do that when he cant even stand up for his own opinions?

and yes, Bush is guilty of the above as well. but like i said, this isnt about Bush proving that he's good enough for the job again. this is about Kerry proving that hes better than Bush. and i'm not satisfied that he is. i dont think he's any worse, but of course, Kerry hasnt yet been given the chance to fuck our country over. which i'm fairly sure he will. just about every president in the past half a century has in one way or another. which is why i dont think it matters who's in charge. anyone "we" [i use the term we extremely loosely here... we -- the electoral college that is... *ahem*] put in office is going to be human, unless we relax those citizenship laws about the presidency. and as a human, they will have flaws. and those flaws will directly effect our country. besides, given the track record that every president is ultimately ruled by his wife, we should be examining the candidates wives with a fine toothed comb. and Kerry's wife, with her ketchup bar thingys, does not inspire any amount of confidence in me either. not one bit. woman cant cook... how can she direct the man who runs our country?

  3. its rather a moot point what i think of him, since i'm not voting for anyone...

but you seem to have missed my point. its not that Kerry hasnt done anything presidential. (you're the one who asked for solid things that he has done that make me think hes such a bad guy, i merely obliged).

my point is that we shouldnt be forced to choose between "a big douche and a turd sandwich." as time goes on, our choices get fewer and fewer, and worse and worse, until we're not just choosing the lesser of two evils anymore because the evils are equal. the only difference is quality. what quality of evil would we prefer? and thats really what it comes down to with Bush and Kerry. which quality of evil would i prefer. well, i prefer no evil. but i'm not getting that as a choice, so i'm just not having any.

this election is like going to an "all you can eat" salad bar, and being asked to choose between creamed spinach and brussel sprouts (the two vegetables i hate the most) and nothing else. so you know what? i'm not hungry. i pass. i'm not going to eat. I will wait until theres something on the menu that i can convince myself to swallow.

in any case, i'm not even the one getting to choose what goes on my plate. the guy behind the line (the electoral college) has decided for me, and is scooping up a heaping pile of it to put on my plate whether i want it there or not. but really, its not his fault either, because he didnt choose the menu. the cooks did that (political parties), and well, these ones need to go back to culinary school. they have no idea how to do their jobs. at all. are there really no better foods out there than creamed spinach and brussel sprouts (Bush and Kerry)? anywhere? at all?? because you know what, i know about a couple places you can get a decent t-bone... and i'm just a lowly customer (the one who management [government] is supposed to serve... i thought?). and the owners of the place (corporations, millionaires, billionaires, media) dictate what the cooks prepare, and they dont care what i think either, because they've got the rest of their customer base so brainwashed that they'll eat whatever's set in front of them, even if its complete shit. which is what we're being served right now. creamed spinach and brussel sprouts do not presidents make, and thats all there is to it.

so as for giving Kerry a chance to be president, i dont need to give anyone a chance. they've taken it. it was decided long before this election was ever started. it was decided before the campaigns were started. it was decided before anyone even announced they were running.

the american people have been twisted around the pinky finger of those unnamed forces that are REALLY behind this country. the american people are SHEEP. and i refuse to be one.

  4. Really speaking, they should poll the rest of the world for votes as well.

Though, even if that happened, the whole thing would be a shambles. As you say.

    Thanks for the link ;)
